Blue Jar

It's mid-winter as I put the final touches on this Spring-hopful painting; right now my blue mason jars hold left-over homemade soups.  I'm looking forward to using them to hold handfuls of spring flowers.  Muted pastels are the foundation colors in Blue Jar but they are set off by edgier olive green and black.  I remember a wedding I was in in the 1960's: pale blue dresses accented by olive green ribbon.  I've never forgotten the impact the combination made on my young, artistic mind. If you look closely you will see bits of watercolor paper with floral impressions peering through the heavier acrylic paint.

Blue Jar will brighten up a neutral wall in your farmhouse-style decor or fit neatly into a mid-century modern. My house is a nearly 200-year old Shaker and contemporary folk art is perfect.
